Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup A shoreline is anywhere that land meets water. Be it river, lake, ocean, wetland or pond, and Canada's shorelines need your help. Toronto Zoo has been a proud participant in the TD Canada Trust Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup for several years. Each September we join hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world for our part in the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), an international effort coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy. The Vancouver Aquarium started the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup program over 13 years ago, and the program has grown from a local beach cleanup to a national program with volunteers in every province and territory.
Pinky Rivera- McCarthy from Toronto Zoo's Education Department organized our local clean-up at the Rouge River beach. For our part, 53 volunteers including high school students from Mowat C.I., Toronto Zoo staff and volunteers, Rouge Park staff, and community members, collected 36 bags of garbage.
